There are 2 services available from NTT  that are very useful, very cheap (200 yen/mo.) and will save you money on all your local calls.

TIME PLUS increases the time period that you get for 8.5 yen by over 65% - from 3 to 5 mins. during the day and from 4 to 7 mins. (evening and night time).

  AREA PLUS expands the your 'local' calling area.
